Keeping Children Safe from the Bully
Safeguarding children is always a priority and Hardwicks Neighbourhood Police in conjunction with Tristar held an event at
Hardwicks Community Centre to highlight to young people who to talk to if they need help .
The event took place on 26 March 2013 and involved young people from eight different primary schools across the Borough of Stockton , representatives from many different organisations were also present , including , STASH , HYPE , SBC , The Fire Service and the Neighbourhood Enforcement Team , all working together to get the message across to young people .
HYPE project was invited along to this event to speak and work with the young people and carried out a session highlighting what bullying entailed and how to get help if you were a victim .Bullying can come in all sorts of guises and the session helped the young to identify what constitutes a bully , the different ways in which a person can be bullied and what they can do about it .
The young people worked with HYPE on 'The Tree of Truth ' in which all the young added leaves with words describing their impressions of other young people .
Some of the positive words described were Jolly , Kind and Cool with some of the negative words being Evil, Badly Behaved and Disrespectful .
The exercise gave the workers and insight into how the young viewed their peers .
The HYPE team will now look at carrying out more in-depth workshops with the young and would like to use The Tree of Truth at an event involving adults to give a more balanced view of the Young .
The overall Message of the day was that bullying , in any for ,should never be tolerated and if a young person feels they are being bullied they should talk to someone who can help .

Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying is just what it sounds like - bullying through Internet applications and technologies such as instant messaging (IM), social networking sites, and cell phones. It can start easily—with a rumor, a photo, or a forwarded message—and just as easily spiral out of control. An embarrassing video posted to a social networking site by someone in Kansas tonight may be watched by someone in Japan tomorrow. Cyberbullying victims may be targeted anywhere, at any time.
Common Forms of Cyberbullying
Did You Know? About one-third of online teens (ages 12-17) have been cyberbullied. Girls are more likely to be targeted.
