What is Postal Depression?    Many women suffer the ‘Baby Blues’ shortly after having their baby, but for some,  this can develop into the more serious Postnatal Depression. Postnatal Depression is an illness which affects between 10-15% of women having a baby.

Symptoms of PND may include…

  • Low moods
  • Irritable with baby or partner
  • Changes in appetite
  • Unable to enjoy anything, including your baby
  • Anxiety
  • Negative thoughts
  • Avoiding people
  • Depending on the severity, you may struggle to look after yourself and your baby, you may find simple tasks difficult. Sometimes there is an obvious trigger for PND, but not always. PND often begins within the first few months of having a baby, but can develop at anytime within the first 12 months. PND  can also begin during pregnancy, known as Prenatal Depression, which can continue on after birth, becoming Postnatal Depression. Don’t suffer in silence, get PND support today.

PANDAS is the leading UK charity in supporting families suffering from pre (antenatal) and postnatal illnesses. PANDAS vision is to support every individual, family and carer suffering with perinatal mental health illnesses. We campaign to raise awareness and remove the stigma. We provide our PANDAS Help Line, Support Groups, and online advice to all and much more. See how you can make a difference by volunteering or donating today.

Success Stories

Pandas Foundation works hard to support individuals, their families and carers suffering from pre (antenatal) depression, postnatal depression and postnatal psychosis. As well as offering support and advice we spend a lot of time raising awareness. The best way to do this is to share peoples stories of how they suffered and overcome the illnesses, to allow others to know they are not alone. Read through the success stories from the people which want to make a difference to people’s lives and have suffered pre and postnatal illnesses themselves.
