The Raw Talent Project - Our Vision
We want to take an unloved almost derelict building on the High street (The old Leveys store ) and turn it into not only a fabulous space for local talent to show off and perform, but to bring to Stockton the areas first truly ECO café which in addition to serving delicious food that has been ethically sourced and produced, whenever possible using ingredients from local suppliers within a 30 mile radius, catering for those with specific dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and the like, we will use fully biodegradable consumables such as corn starch cutlery and plates…
...not very eco-friendly throwing stuff away I hear you say, but not only is this stuff made from fully sustainable fast degrading plant starches that won’t go into landfill and choke the environment,it also means we are not pouring litre upon litre of harsh detergent into the sewerage system or heating hot water to wash dishes, simple really! |
Our kitchen and café will also provide training for those wanting to learn new skills, we even hope to hold free to attend classes for those keen to learn or improve their cooking techniques.
The café will provide income to allow us to provide areas for our artists to train, practice and showcase their talents at no cost to themselves as well as a community focused meeting place. Upstairs we want to create practice rooms and artist studios operated on a no or minimum cost to the user basis, something that most up and coming talent does not normally have access to. Aspirations of "crash space" for visiting artists may be a little further off but it’s something we really like the idea of too! Ambitious? Yes! , Achievable? Absolutely!! With hard work commitment and community spirit we can do this.....so come on Stockton what are you waiting for??
