Elections for M.E.P.s ( Thats right ! , The European Parliament )
| So here's the latest round of Elections of people begging for jobs you don't understand , you don't know , have never heard of , don't care about or haven't been to your house campaigning (and to be honest when they do , do your really want to talk to them if they do ? ) Did you know MEPs in Parliament cannot MAKE laws only CHANGE or ratify them . The European Commission are the ones that make laws , not much of parliament then is it ? By the way, MEPs salary is roughly £6,500 per month not withstanding expenses . Not bad eh? I digress. So I had the Electoral Registration Officer or his representative knocking on my door asking who lived here . Fine , its me and my wife and my stepson . Whats his name (he just turned 18) we was asked , so we told him . Now he has an EASY and TYPICAL white Anglo Saxon name ( in fact its in the top 40 common surnames alongside ones like Hughes, Clark and Moore ) . We didnt sign as saying the names was correct also which I am sure we should of done , wasnt even offered the option to be honest. My fault , I shouldve known to check on them . Imagine my surprise when the Poll card came with his name completely misspelled . Well, I say surprise but who really is surprised at the slackness of officialdom ? What was the nice surprise was about 2 weeks later when we got " Time sensitive documents " , LOL ,Visa credit card applications from Vanquis Bank through the postbox addressed to the stepson with his completely misspelled name which exists nowhere except on the Electoral Roll . Now I dont know if Vanquis Bank are buying Electoral Rolls from the Electoral Commission, Stockton Borough Council or honest John from the market but they certainly are getting it from somewhere without my permission or indeed yours . So if you suddenly get more Junk Mail than normal , this might be an idea as to why you are getting it . Author : About Stockton |  |
