History

History of the Stockton Weekender

The Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF) is an annual outdoor arts festival in Stockton-on-Tees, England. It includes UK and international performers.
The Stockton Riverside Fringe Festival was created in 1991 as a companion event to SIRF. It was intended to showcase local talent after local performers started to feel left out of the main festival in favour of bigger acts.

The first Stockton Riverside Festival was founded by Frank Wilson and the first festival took place in August 1988. The centrepiece was Circus Burlesque’s big top show. 24 years later, the Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF) has grown into an internationally famous event that attracts thousands of spectators. The North-East section of travel website iknow-UK calls it 'One of the North East's top summer family festivals'2011 - 2013

The inaugural 'Stockton Weekender' took place in August 2011 featuring a line up featuring...

Seasick Steve – Newton Faulkner – Maximo Park – Cast –  Django Django – Saint Savior – Team Me – Kitty Daisy and Lewis – Pete Molinari - Young Rebel Set - Cattle & Cane - The Chapman Family - Collectors Club.

2012 welcomed an additional stage, bringing in further talent...

The Pogues - We Are Scientists - James - Simon & Oscar (OCS Acoustic) - Jake Bugg - The Go! Team - The Crookes - Willy Mason - Alun Cochrane - The New Rope String Band.

2013 was our biggest year yet featuring...

Primal Scream - Spiritualized - Dexys - The Proclaimers - Kodaline - King Charles - Wild Smiles - Temples - B>E>A>K - History Of Apple Pie - Hey Sholay - The Sons of Bido Lito - James Skelly & The Intenders - Dutch Uncles - Frankie & The Heartstrings - Sparrow & The Workshop - The Jar Family - Sons & Lovers - Bo Bruce - Richard Herring - Craig Campbell

As well as bringing some of the best live acts in the world to the shores of the River Tees we still continue to promote local music; allowing our locals to nick the audiences that the big boys and girls bring into town. It seems to work a treat - with most of our local bands playing possibly the biggest gigs they’ll ever play in their lives when they make an appearance at Stockton Weekender.

Public Enemy , Happy Mondays, Lee Nelson , Martha Reeves  Reverand and the Makers CONFIRMED for 2014
